On Monday morning the Summerville Oakbrook Rotary Club had the pleasure of hearing from Captain Joshua Davis of The Salvation Army. Joshua is a fellow Rotarian and shared with us the five core values of the group and the impact on our community.
To Be Brave – A commitment to respond to emergencies and disasters to be a resource to those impacted as well as first responders. During the recent winter storms, The Salvation Army prepared meals for those responders assigned to clearing the roads and attending various calls for assistance.
Passionate – In particular, with serving the youth in our community by providing summer camp opportunities to experience the great outdoors.
Trustworthy – To demonstrate care in receiving and administering donations. Approximately 82 to 84 cents of every dollar donated to The Salvation Army is used to deliver programs to the community.
Compassionate – The red kettle funding raising efforts at local merchants during the winter months helps provide 2,000 children with a memorable Christmas experience.
Uplifting – Helping those who are afflicted by addiction achieve independence and start living an intentional life. In the southeast region of the US, The Salvation Army maintains 23 centers with more than 100 beds each to provide a 6-month recovery program to those in need.
The Summerville Oakbrook Rotary Club is a local chapter of Rotary International and meets at 7:30 AM nearly every Monday morning at the Perkins Restaurant at 1700 Old Trolley Road in Summerville. Learn more at https://www.summervillebreakfastrotary.org/.
